Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using CarNote ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. CarNote is operated in Australia and these terms are governed by Australian law.

2. Description of Service

CarNote provides QR code stickers for vehicles. When scanned, the QR code allows anyone to send an anonymous message to the vehicle owner. The Service includes the website, QR code generation, report submission, and email notifications.

3. Account Registration

• You must provide a valid email address to create an account.
• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
• You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
• One person may register multiple vehicles but may not create multiple accounts.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Submit reports containing abusive, threatening, defamatory, or illegal content
• Use the Service to harass, stalk, or intimidate any person
• Submit false or misleading reports
• Attempt to circumvent rate limits or abuse prevention measures
• Include URLs, links, or promotional content in reports
• Use automated tools or bots to submit reports
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the Service
• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose

5. Content Moderation

All reports are subject to automated content moderation. We reserve the right to block, remove, or flag any content that violates these terms. Reports containing inappropriate content will be rejected and logged. Repeated violations may result in IP-level blocking.

6. Reporter Anonymity

Reports are anonymous. We do not collect personally identifiable information from reporters. However, we store hashed IP addresses for rate limiting and abuse prevention. Vehicle owners cannot identify reporters through the Service.

7. Vehicle Owner Responsibilities

• You are responsible for the QR code sticker affixed to your vehicle.
• You may disable your QR code at any time to stop receiving reports.
• You may delete reports and block specific reporters from your dashboard.
• You must not use report data to identify, locate, or retaliate against reporters.

8. QR Code Stickers

• Physical stickers are non-refundable once shipped.
• Digital/self-print QR codes are provided free of charge during beta.
• QR codes remain active as long as your account is active or until you disable them.
• QR codes are permanently assigned to a single vehicle and cannot be transferred or reassigned. Once a QR code is linked to a vehicle, that assignment is final.
• If a vehicle is removed, its QR code is permanently deactivated.
• Disabling a QR code includes a 5-minute grace period before it takes effect, allowing you to undo the action.

9. Intellectual Property

All content, branding, and code associated with CarNote are owned by CarNote. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our materials without written permission.

10. Limitation of Liability

CarNote is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for:

• The accuracy or content of reports submitted by third parties
• Any damage to your vehicle or person arising from reports received
• Service interruptions, data loss, or technical issues
• Actions taken by users based on information received through reports

To the maximum extent permitted by Australian law, our total liability is limited to the amount you have paid for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for violations of these terms. You may delete your account by contacting help@carnote.com.au. Upon termination, your QR codes will be deactivated and your data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
